Journaling is my art form, but it’s not limited in any way at all. My newest project is to send myself a series of postcards. I love the look of postcards that have a canceled stamp; getting a surprise in the mail also allows me to look at the art from a new perspective or in a new mood.
Tag journal page: paint, collage, watercolor paper, magazine and newspaper.
For the first group, I chose big, long cream-colored tags: 8.5 inches long and 4.5 inches wide. Too long for a number 10 size envelope. These are not stingy little postcards. I like the vertical format.
If I decide later to do some watercolor, the horizontal format will also work nicely. And if I make enough to bind into a book, I can see a hefty flag journal in the making!
The first one has a quote on the left that says, “The career I’ve chosen is to be at risk. There’s a constant unknowing, and I like that.” The card is about existentialism. Hey, it can’t always be lolcats.

This one is for a friend who just moved into a new house.
She’s an editor, so the house made out of words seemed just right. It has a definition of friendship on the bottom that says, “A friend is someone who understands your past, blieves in your future and accepts you today just the way you are.” The source is given at Proverbs 27:17, which I think is a stretch, but it made me look it up
I like this format, I find it interesting. I also am very attracted to the idea of postcards from the other side of my brain. It’s a long trip, and occasionally a dangerous one.

Where did you find the tags? I only found faily small ones at Staples.
I bought them at my cool local paper shop–The Creative Quest in Glendale, AZ. You can call them at (623) 847-2215. I bet they’ll ship. I’ve never seen them that big, either, which is what made me want to challenge myself!
I love this idea! I assume that you are sending the tag postcards all by themself or they wouldn’t have a cancellation mark. But I thought that the post office has some restrictions on postcard size. I need to go look this up.
The post office DOES have rules, so I took the tags to the post office to ask before I started working on them. The rules are pretty easy, actually. I then bought watercolor postcards, too. Different sizes are fun!
